Details

The revolutionary Live Spindle? design is the reason the new Fathom Star Drag is the most castable reel in the market place. The improved configuration allows the spool to spin independently of the spindle and pinion gear, which significantly reduces friction experienced from the extreme acceleration of the spool when casting. Other reels using a "fixed spindle" design slow the rotation of the spool and reduce casting distance. Additionally the Live Spindle improves the retrieve of the reel because the spindle and pinion do not need to turn relative to each other during heavy loads, unlike a "fixed spindle" reels that result in a difficult retrieve and erratic drag.

    Comments:

I went with the fathom 40 at first I was worried that it might be too large for a good casting reel but after receiving the reel I was very happy with the size and weight it is slightly smaller than my senator 113h and not bulky as a lot of the full metal reels are it casts better than any of my other reels including my spin cast reels I do not have a lot of experience casting conventional reels I mostly use them from a boat bottom fishing or kayak them out from the beach for shark this reel makes casting easy with very little practice and colgard outdoor sports has the best price and fast shipping.
