Mako's Own Fish Story

....or...
How we became Mako's Tackle Supply, Inc.

When Erich Lichtenberger 7 years old, his Grandfather, Poppa, took him fishing for the first time. After that, Erich was "hooked on fishing." When he was 18 years old, Erich set out on a routine fishing trip, wade-fishing off a south Florida beach (which shall remain nameless). He had just added a nice 27 inch trout to his stringer, when something bumped his legs. Then he was bumped again.

Erich looked down and saw the huge shadow of a shark gliding off in the water. His firstfisheat.jpg (24979 bytes) thought was to "get on his ‘Jesus-Shoes’ and high-tail it back to the beach." Then thought, "There’s no way I’m going to let this shark get my fish. I’m going to fight him!  Erich jumped right onto the back of the shark! The shark thrashed wildly and rolled. Erich hung on. on and on the battle raged, with the Mako twisting and snapping and Erich hanging on. Just when he thought he could hold on no longer, the shark’s efforts to free him ceased. Erich slipped off the shark, and it cruised away.

Ever since then, Erich has always remembered that Mako shark, even to the point of naming his business after it.....

What You Have Just Read is True...
Well, some of it is true.

Erich did learn to fish with his grandfather, Poppa, at age 7. He did go wade fishing alone when he was 18. And he was bumped by a shark. Other than that...It’s safe to say that the thought of the "Jesus-Shoes" was quickly translated into immediate action. He high-tailed it back to the beach!

The truth of the matter is that shortly before he started his business, Erich wanted a Mako boat, and his wife, PK, wanted a Labrador Retriever Puppy.

Erich, being a wise and diplomatic fellow, bought PK the puppy, named the puppy Mako, and named his business after the puppy. Since then Erich and PK added to their family with two of Mako’s puppies, Orca and BonitaAlthough we've said goodbye to Mako, Orca and Bonita, Mako's granddaughter, Tuna and Great Grandson, Flounder have taken over as our official store dogs!

13 years later, Erich finally got his boat....

He Named it Top Dog!
